Shekho's Shawarma storefront on St. Paul Street, downtown Thunder Bay, late at night

Open 'til 4:30 AM. Every night.

Late Night Food in Thunder Bay.

When the kitchens close and the bars empty out, there's still one spit turning downtown. Shekho's serves the full menu — Syrian shawarma, wraps, plates, poutine — until 4:30 AM, seven nights a week.

Downtown Thunder Bay has plenty of places to eat at 7pm. It's a different story at 1 AM — and completely different at 3 AM. Shekho's Shawarma is one of the only kitchens in the city still cooking after midnight, and we don't run a stripped-down "late night menu." The full spread runs until close.

How late is Shekho's open?

We're open every single day until 4:30 AM. Not 2 AM, not 3 AM — half past four in the morning, Monday through Sunday. Doors open at 11:00 AM (12:00 PM on Sunday) and we don't close until the sky's already starting to think about lightening up.

  • Sunday: 12:00 PM – 4:30 AM

Downtown, walking distance from the bars

Shekho's is at 17 St. Paul Street, Thunder Bay, ON — the heart of the Waterfront District. If you're leaving one of the St. Paul Street bars, we're the shop with the spit in the window. Walk in, wait five minutes, take it home. Or eat it standing on the sidewalk with your friends. We've seen both.

Real food, not heat-lamp food

The reason it takes a few minutes at 2 AM is the same reason it takes a few minutes at noon — the shawarma is carved off the vertical spit when you order it. Nothing pre-portioned, nothing warmed up. Chicken and beef, marinated overnight, cooked all night, wrapped to order with house garlic sauce, pickles, and hot pepper if you want it.

What to order after midnight

The unofficial 2 AM order is the shawarma poutine — hand-cut fries, cheese curds, gravy, shawarma meat on top, garlic sauce over everything. If you want the classic move, get a chicken shawarma wrap with a side of fries. Vegetarian friends: falafel wrap, no compromises.

Who eats here at 3 AM?

Bar crowd on Friday and Saturday. Nurses and paramedics coming off shift. Long-haul drivers stopping on the way through. Lakehead students on deadline. Wedding parties. First dates that went well. Anyone who realized dinner was six hours ago.
